Our 8th-grade students recently had the privilege of hearing from Holocaust survivor Andy Sarkany, who shared his experiences surviving the Budapest ghetto, life under post-war communist rule, and his eventual journey to the United States. Mr. Sarkany's message of hope, courage, and compassion left a lasting impact on all who attended.

What makes a hit song? Our students found out firsthand during a songwriting workshop with CT State Troubadour Charlie Widmer. Students worked together to bridge the gap between musical theory and modern storytelling, learning how to pivot between word-driven and melody-driven composition. By the end of the session, the group had begun crafting their own original song, proving that every student has a unique story to tell and a melody to share.

Our 8th-grade classes recently traveled to New Haven for an exploration of the Yale Peabody Museum, where the abstract concept of geologic time came vividly to life. Students encountered a world of ancient fossils, rare minerals, and life-sized prehistoric creatures that served as a bridge between their textbooks and the tangible history of our planet.

The CMS and BMS PTAs recently hosted a presentation by Dr. Chris Bogart from the Sasco River Center, focusing on the vital role of executive functioning in the middle school years. Dr. Bogart helped families bridge the gap between school and home by establishing a shared language and highlighting why these foundational skills are the key to long-term success. Parents walked away with a deeper understanding of the adolescent brain and, most importantly, practical strategies to help their children manage time and organization effectively.
