We are so proud of our 8th graders as they prepare to take their next big step into high school. The Moving Up Ceremony was a meaningful reflection of their achievements and growth over the past three years. Best wishes to the Class of 2029. Your CMS family will always be cheering you on!
Mr. Bengt Anderson, a National Geographic producer and CMS parent, visited in person to speak with our sixth-grade students and connect them with his colleague, volcanologist Dr. Emma Nicholson, who joined via Zoom from New Zealand. Dr. Nicholson, featured in Lake of Fire, shared her experience exploring a remote, uncharted volcano. Students had previously viewed the documentary, which follows a team’s expedition to uncover when and why volcanoes erupt. During the visit, students asked thoughtful questions about lava lakes, how Dr. Nicholson travels to volcanoes, and how ideas for National Geographic films are developed, among other topics. This engaging experience brought the sixth-grade science curriculum to life in a truly memorable way.
The CMS Select Ensembles, Wind Ensemble, Chamber Orchestra, and Camerata, celebrated their annual Spring Music Festival with a new twist this year. The day began with a 90-minute workshop led by specialist clinicians, offering students valuable guidance and inspiration. The celebration continued with a fun-filled trip to Lake Compounce, where students enjoyed quality time together after a year of dedicated effort, extra rehearsals, additional performances, and the creation of beautiful music.
We were thrilled to welcome fifth graders from Kings Highway School (KHS) and Coleytown Elementary School (CES) to CMS as part of their transition to middle school. During their visit, students met teachers, counselors, and administrators, and learned the “Top 10 Reasons You’ll Love CMS.” They toured the building and participated in a Q&A session with a student panel made up of sixth, seventh, and eighth graders. The panelists shared insights about the CMS schedule, extracurricular activities, and tips for a smooth and successful start to sixth grade.
We are thrilled to celebrate a group of CMS students who were recognized as winners in the Connecticut Writing Project’s statewide “Connecticut Student Writers Contest.” This prestigious K-12 contest invites students to submit one creative piece per category: art, fiction, nonfiction prose, and poetry. Last week, these talented writers traveled to UCONN for a special ceremony honoring their achievements. The CMS community is incredibly proud of their creativity, dedication, and outstanding accomplishments!
Known for their award-winning vaudeville-inspired performances and physical comedy, Chris and Paul brought their unique energy and expertise to our students. Participants explored character development, improv and sketch techniques, physicality in performance, and the power of silence and stage presence. Through engaging, hands-on activities, students were encouraged to take creative risks and build confidence.
