As 8th-grade students are being introduced to Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, we are looking at the continued relevance of many of his motifs and themes. In order to increase their comfort with his language and literary techniques, students were interpreting and translating the Masquerade Ball from Act 1, which will be followed by in-class performances. Students will also have opportunities to modernize scenes from the play to discover text-to-self connections and the Bard's influence on modern literature and performance.
On Friday, December 13, the CMS community celebrated Hats for Hope, a meaningful fundraiser supporting children battling cancer. This event aims to raise both funds and awareness for pediatric cancer care.
The CMS community came together the day before Thanksgiving break to celebrate its annual Giving Assembly, a cherished tradition that highlights the power of kindness and teamwork. In the weeks leading up to the event, students, staff, and school clubs worked tirelessly to support a variety of charities and foundations, demonstrating a strong commitment to making a difference.
Sixth graders completed their final assessment for the introductory unit on the Three Dimensions of Health—Physical, Mental, and Social. As part of this assessment, they applied the S.M.A.R.T. Goal framework to create a health-themed game that their classmates could play. The project required them to incorporate elements of physical, mental, and social health into the game design, ensuring that it was both educational and engaging.
CMS celebrated Veterans Day with a memorable school-wide assembly.
Students are wrapping up their first unit by creating or decorating an object that symbolizes a character in a book. Some chose to decorate water bottles with stickers, others decorated a locker, and a few even created playlists of songs that represent their character. The sixth graders' creativity and dedication were truly impressive!
